The Ultimate Bounce House Party Checklist for Chicago Parents
8 min read · Pure Play Rentals · Chicago, IL · March 15, 2026
A bounce house party should be one of the most fun, low-stress events you host all year. The secret to that? Planning. Not obsessive planning — just making sure the right things happen in the right order before the big day. This checklist is built for Chicago parents hosting in the backyard, at a park, or in a rented space. Work through it top to bottom and you'll be relaxed and ready when the inflatable goes up.
4 Weeks Before Lock In the Essentials
- Choose your party date and confirm with key family members
- Book your bounce house rental — call Pure Play at (773) 584-7821 or visit pureplayrentals.com/book
- Choose the party location: backyard, park, or rented venue
- If a park: apply for a Chicago Park District permit or suburban park permit
- Decide on a party theme (optional but helps with decorations and invites)
- Create and send digital or paper invitations
- Set an RSVP deadline 10–12 days before the party
2 Weeks Before Plan the Details
- Confirm RSVP list and get a headcount for food and supplies
- Order or plan the birthday cake and any catered food
- Buy paper plates, cups, napkins, and any themed decorations
- Plan your food and drink layout — keep it away from the inflatable
- Identify your setup area at home and measure it (minimum 20×20 ft for most units)
- Locate your nearest outdoor outlet — confirm it works and has clearance for the blower
- Arrange for extra supervision: ask a family member or friend to help monitor the bounce house
- Buy or locate a small first aid kit to have on hand
1 Week Before Confirm and Prepare
- Confirm your booking with Pure Play — we'll also reach out to confirm logistics
- Check the long-range weather forecast and form a backup plan if needed
- Send a reminder to guests with address, time, and what to wear (comfortable clothes, socks)
- Remind guests: no jewelry, no glasses, no shoes inside the inflatable
- Buy any remaining party supplies — goodie bags, balloons, streamers
- Plan your backyard layout: inflatable location, food table, seating area
- Arrange trash and recycling bins in easily accessible spots
Day Before Get the Yard Ready
- Mow the grass in the setup area
- Clear the inflatable area of furniture, toys, hoses, and debris
- Check for overhead hazards: branches, power lines, awnings (15 ft clearance needed)
- Set up outdoor tables, chairs, and any canopy or shade structure
- Prep and refrigerate any food that can be made ahead
- Charge your phone so you can take photos and contact Pure Play if needed
- Set out a basket or box near the bounce house entrance for shoes and accessories
- Review the safety rules one more time — see our full safety guide
Day Of Party Day Tasks
- Be home 90 minutes before party start time for Pure Play's arrival and setup
- Show the crew the setup area and point them to the nearest outlet
- Keep pets and younger siblings away during setup
- Set up food and drinks at least 15 feet from the inflatable
- Place the first aid kit in an accessible spot
- Brief your designated supervision helper on the rules before guests arrive
- Put a "Shoes Off Here" sign near the bounce house entrance
- Keep a cooler of water bottles near (but not inside) the bounce house
- Set up a table with sunscreen if it's a sunny day
- Greet guests and point parents toward the house rules sign
- Rotate supervision duties every 30 minutes to keep everyone fresh
- No food, gum, or drinks inside the inflatable — enforce this consistently
- Watch the weather — if wind picks up or storms approach, stop bouncing and deflate
- Have a designated adult available to take pickup photos and manage the crowd
- Be present when Pure Play arrives for teardown — takes about 30–45 minutes
A Few Things Parents Often Forget
Even with a great checklist, there are a few things that consistently catch Chicago parents off guard:
- The outlet distance: Measure before the day of. If your outlet is more than 50 feet from your intended setup spot, you'll need an extension cord or a generator. Don't discover this when the crew is on your lawn.
- Shoes for the bounce house area: Kids in socks slip on wet grass. Have a mat or step at the entrance so kids can safely take their shoes off and put them back on.
- Sunscreen station: On a hot, sunny Chicago afternoon, kids bouncing outside can get significant sun exposure. Set up a station and do a quick sunscreen check before the party starts.
- Noise ordinance times: Chicago and most suburbs have quiet hours typically starting at 10pm. Plan your event timeline so the party wraps and teardown is done well before any local curfew.
